Giancarlo.
Twin brothers, an incredible team, and a decade of doing things one way — the right way.
Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. Italian mom, American dad, identical twin brothers — but somehow nothing alike. One a Le Cordon Bleu pastry chef. The other, a civil engineer who never quite settled into engineering.
One of us has been obsessed with baking since childhood. Annoyingly so, according to the other — who'd have to listen to all the talk about cakes between video games. But even going through college for civil engineering, the truth was always quietly there: this was where both of us were going to end up.
For one of us, baking has always been more than a craft — it's how we share what we're feeling. When I'm anxious, I bake. When I'm sad, I bake. When I'm happy, I bake. It's a medium. The cakes that leave our kitchen carry that with them, whether anyone sees it or not.
"We promised each other we'd do this right or not at all. So far, not at all hasn't been an option."
We started a decade ago with a stall at Yellow Green Farmers Market in Hollywood, baking out of our home kitchen and renting the space for $350 a month. On the first Saturday, one of us told the other: "If we make $100, we're okay. We're just starting."
We sold out by mid-afternoon. We stayed up all night baking more. Sold out Sunday too. That weekend made it real.
We started dbakers to share the things we actually loved to eat — macarons, cupcakes, cookies, cheesecakes. That was it. About five months in, customers kept asking the same question: "Do you guys make cakes?" We didn't. We'd never built one.
So we figured it out. We started recording the process on Instagram — experimental, a little chaotic, completely self-taught. Then one cake went viral. Everything changed after that. The phone wouldn't stop. We graduated from our home kitchen to renting commercial kitchens by the hour, baking at odd hours, packing and selling everything ourselves.
About six years ago, we signed the lease on our first storefront. The buildout took longer than expected — much longer — and taught us more about Miami construction than we ever wanted to know. But we got there. We're still here. And the day we got the keys is still one of the best days either of us has had.
The name came from us. We're twins, identical, but somehow different in every way that matters — same letter, different sound. "dbakers" felt like that. It still does.
If we wouldn't be proud to serve it to family, it doesn't leave our kitchen.
Every online order is baked specifically for you — your date, your celebration, your moment. Nothing frozen, nothing pre-made. Order by midnight, ready tomorrow.
Customize your cake right on the product page — flavors, colors, message — and you're done. No forms, no back-and-forth, no "we'll get back to you." Just order, and we take it from there.
Our locations always have fresh cakes and desserts ready to go. Walk in, pick something up, say hi. No planning required — we'd love to see you.
We're a team of about 20 people now, and we like it that way. Small enough that every order still gets the attention it deserves. Big enough that we can be there for whatever Miami throws at us — weddings, birthdays, last-minute orders, peak holidays.
One of us runs the back end now — administration, permits, the parts of running a bakery nobody photographs. The other runs production — flavors, decoration, the kitchen rhythm. Between the two of us, we're each other's biggest support. It's like having someone else who thinks the way you do, making the decisions you'd make.
The people who work here chose to be here. Our decorators, our team leads, the people who've been with us since the beginning — they're the reason this place feels like it does. When you walk into our space, we hope you feel it. The music, the energy, the smell of buttercream at the door. That's not a vibe we manufactured. That's just genuinely who we are every day.
When someone orders from us, they're trusting us with a moment that matters to them. A hundredth birthday. A first birthday. A wedding. A Tuesday they wanted to make special. We don't take any of it lightly.
When we see a regular show up for their sixtieth, eightieth, hundredth order with us, that's the validation. That's what tells us we picked the right path. Follow @dbakers_miami to see what we're working on, or come visit us — we love seeing familiar faces and making new ones.
From our kitchen to your table. With love.
